I moved to Boulder, Utah in the spring of 2001. I was looking for a small, quiet, peaceful, and beautiful place to live. I grew up in the Sonoran Desert, so I felt comfortable in Southern Utah. Boulder, at an elevation of 6000 feet, has a four-season climate with warm summers and a cold winter. I spent winters in Alaska and Colorado, and spent 18 summers in Tucson, so I was happy to be somewhere in the middle.
LLAMAS? When I moved to Boulder, I had a lead on one job,
working on a small ranch that supported a llama packing business.
By the middle of that first year I was working as an assistant
guide for many of those llama trekking
trips.
I was fortunate to learn and develop the skills that were necessary
to become a successful and trusted guide. I spent much of my
childhood in the desert with my Dad and my Grandfather.
Later, I was able to travel to many parts of the world where I
further honed these skills. Three months of adventure in the wilds
of Mongolia were followed swiftly with three once-in-a-lifetime
months in South East Asia. I missed Utah, but after a season of
llama trekking, we set out to fulfill a lifelong dream of traveling
in Argentina. The real magic of four months in lower South America
was the horse-packing trips with Abbe in the mountains of Chile,
and the oddly familiar deserts of Southern Bolivia. The
experience of navigating my way through the unfamiliar world make
the guiding job in the canyons feel like home.
After nine years of guiding for Red Rock n’ llamas, I was
encouraged to start my own small llama packing service to
accommodate the overflow business during the busy spring and fall
trekking seasons. LLAMA2BOOT was founded in 2009 and became
operational in 2010. With business growing, the llama herd is
also expanding. Full-service trips and
group outfitting are now the bulk of trip bookings.
With the help of family and friends, and especially the support of my wife Abberae, llama2boot has become a success. Thank you for your support!
